Window grilles and balconies competion

Patios Cordobeses is normally celebrated from the 1 st week up to the 2 nd week of May (usually starts on the first Wednesday of the month). This event aims to highlight the marvelous courtyards of Cordoba by having a contest.

A typical Andalucian township is glowing with charming courtyards. Cordoba in particular is renowned to have the most effervescent and multi-hued patios. This area serves as an extension of the living room where home owners can entertain guests and perform social activities. This festival is a serious contest for the most beautiful patio and is not just for attracting tourists, although it can serve as purpose for the latter. People who love flowers and landscaped gardens will find this affair really worth witnessing.

Cruces de Mayo

This event is also called the Crosses of May Festival and is celebrated annually on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd day of May. During the Cruces de Mayo, the whole town is decked out with crosses and an enormous quantity of flowers. Each town in Cordoba competes for the prize of the best flower-ornamented Cross. The ground works for beautifying each town s Cross start even months prior to the actual competition season. The local neighborhood of each town financially contributes to the beautification project of their own Crosses. Engaging in the actual Cross-decorating activity is a good reason for women and children to meet up, sing, dance, and just enjoy the whole project until it is done and ready for competition.

     The Fair

The Cordoba Fair is usually held at the end of May, to mark the feast of Our Lady of la Salud (Health). The special fairground in el Arenal is very easy to get to and horse-riders and men or women in gypsy dress can be seen in the casetas (individual enclosures belonging to each association) which are laid out in orderly rows in the different streets of the fairground. All the casetas are public, and the doors are open for visitors to enter any they like, which is half the fun of it all.

The uplifting sound of Sevillanas, the fino wine, the tapas, the Cordoban hat and the peinetas (ornamental combs worn by the women) make the Cordoba Fair as amazing an experience as any of the other Andalusian fairs.

During the time of the fair, there are a number of important bullfights held at the Los Califas Bullring starring the best known bullfighters of the day

NIghts of charm

Cordoba is transformed every summer into a massive stage, ringing to the sound of music and song. History, art and culture open their hearts to the public of this World Heritage City, bewitching them on those balmy summer nights, and nurturing a multicultural blend of artists from the fields of flamenco, contemporary dance, classical music, jazz, and so on. A wide range of styles and forms of interpretation take part in different international festivals, national exhibitions, conferences, cycles, guided tours and much more, and all the action blends into a single performance, which is the historical city itself, taking part in this exciting exchange of cultures.
